A 10 mile walk from Stoke
Bruerne, a picturesque village by the Grand
Union Canal. Meet at 10.30am in the
museum car park (signposted once you reach the
village), which costs £3 to park all day. There

where sadly the snowdrop strewn bank near the
church is likely to be gone by the time of the

Hart in Grafton Regis for a drink, eating our
packed lunch nearby. The highlight of the
afternoon are some bumps and lumps in a field
that are the remains of a Norman Castle in
Alderton. From here we will head back to Stoke
Bruerne for a well deserved ice cream, cake, or
lager shandy depending on what is open ( and the
weather!). Please bring a packed lunch. |

For those walking all day, we will eat our sandwiches on the picnic tables near the car park then walk up to the Olde Swan pub in Woughton on the Green for a drink. The afternoon loop will start from the pub. The afternoon loop is a 5 mile
walk starting from the Olde Swan pub in Woughton
on the Green at approximately 1pm. (The pub is on

we will walk across open fields until reaching the
Grand Union Canal. We will walk south along the
canal to Simpson, and from there cut across to
Caldecotte Lake. The towpath maybe muddy in

Sunday 7th |
Meet outside the
Crown Inn Pub in Weston for 10:30 start, its on the
High Street as you are going through the village so
it should be fairly easy to find. There is parking
nearby along the road. This will be a circular walk, 10 miles in total split equally between morning and afternoon. We will leave Weston and go north, across some fields and skirt around a small hamlet called Plumpton and past a nice little church, across some more undulating Northamptonshire fields and skirt around the edge of Plumpton Wood. Then a short section of road walking (not busy) before diverting back across some fields to arrive at Blakesley for lunch (spot the disused Windmill in the village!). We will arrive at Blakesley for lunch around 12:30-12:45. There are some benches on the village green which should be available to eat sandwiches. There is also the pub (The Batholomew Arms) for those that would like a swift pint at lunchtime (as part of due diligence I have sampled the beer and there is a nice local ale called Bart's Best) We will leave the village to the south around 1:15pm across a few oilseed rape fields and with some nice views before eventually arriving at Weedon Lois which we will pass through with a short section across some more fields back to Weston. |
Wednesday 10th |
The walk
will start at 7.30pm. We'll meet in Shutlanger
on Main Road at the junction of Baker's Lane and
Water Lane. It's just before from the pub but a
bit closer to parking options around the
village. Parking along Main Road is quite
limited but there are options around the
village, just allow a bit of time to find
them! The walk is approximately 4 miles and will take us across fields to Stoke Bruerne and then back to Shutlanger via Stoke Pavilions. There are quite a few gates but only a few stiles. When I reccied it there were sheep and lambs in many of the fields so dogs should be kept on leads. Also, the track was quite muddy in places so appropriate footwear for mud is recommended. (Unless the weather stays this sunny in April!). We should be back in Shutlanger for 9ish, so people might fancy a drink in the Plough. |
Fri 12th- Sun 14th |

The plan is to have
a BBQ at Tim and Belinda's house. The following day
they will lead a walk from Caldicotte Lake, Milton
Keynes to the 'Back Woods' of Woburn estate starting
at the later than usual time of 11am. The AGMs are usually very informal, with the business part of the group kept to a minimum. It is your chance to have your say about the group, how it is run and volunteer to help run it, as well as a great social event – remembering some of the walks and weekends we've enjoyed over the year. Prizes will be awarded for best walk, best social and best weekend away. We'd also encourage you to take part in our 'guess the walk' photo competition and a walk caption competition. The details: Everyone in the group is welcome to come along to the BBQ, please reply to this email if you'd like to come along, or contact Tim or Belinda directly if you have their contact details. People are welcome to arrive from 6pm. Tim and Belinda will provide things like bread rolls, sauces and salad. We will ask those coming along to bring along their own food to cook or co-ordinate who is bringing what! If you would like to stay over, then there is a spare bed, some floor space and even space in the garden for a couple of tents, again please let us know if you're interested. Sunday 30 July, circular
walk to Woburn Back woods, walk leaders Tim and
Belinda We will meet at the car park on
Monellan Crescent, on the Caldicotte Lake South at
the later than usual time of 11am (as its

several more woods (separate names but arguably
the same wood?!) and alongside several golf
courses. Eventually we'll emerge from the last
woods to the village of Bow Brickhill. We're
hoping to stop at the Wheatsheaf Pub for a drink.
From here we'll walk through a couple of fields to
return us back to the edge of Caldicotte Lake. So, please let us know if you'd like to come along. If you've got any photos that you'd like to enter for either competition please can you email them directly to Belinda. We hope that you can make it! Circular 'Pub
Crawl' walk, Long Buckby, Walk leader Andy Walk will start at Long Buckby train station, at approximately 10.40 – 10.45am. This is a walk with a difference with not one but three pub stops planned, to hopefully take advantage of some nice summer weather! To overcome the problem of getting home after visiting all these pubs, the walk starts and ends at Long Buckby station. The theory was that you could get the train from Northampton, but unfortunately it turns out there is a replacement bus service that day! However it only takes 20 minutes from Northampton. The bus leaves Northampton at 10.21 and is due to arrive at 10.41. We will wait for this bus before setting off. If coming by car you will need to arrive in time for this. Please note that parking is free in the small car park adjacent to the station but you have to pay to park in the larger, privately owned car park next this! The walk is 10 miles and takes us from Long Buckby to the outskirts of Watford via the canal and then to Ashby St Ledgers where after a brief lunch stop (so bring your sandwiches!) we will call at our first pub, the Old Coach House. From there we head through rolling countryside to the pretty village of Welton and the second pub, the excellent White Horse! Then it's on across more rolling countryside and the canal to Long Buckby Wharf where we will stop at the New Inn for our final pub stop at this lovely canalside pub, before heading back to Long Buckby. There is the option of a meal at the New Inn as well (http://thenewinnbuckbywharf.co.uk/ ), which does a very good Sunday lunch – if anyone fancies this option it will need to be booked. If you are interested please contact Andy (or the site contact email) by the end of July. If there are enough people we will make a booking (those not eating will be directed back to Long Buckby, which is quite a short walk). Some of you may think you recognise this walk, and with good reason – this was the Santa Hat Walk in December 16 but is returning as a Summer “Pub Crawl Walk” by popular demand - and with Santa's permission!! <- Google pin of start |

Map reading /
walk planning pub meet session, Fayre &
Square, Billing Mill Please come and join us from 7pm at the Fayre & Square pub, Billing Mill, The Causeway, Great Billing, Northants, NN3 9EX where we will be meeting for a drink and possibly some food. We’ve been asked a few times to run a session to help people who would like to lead a walk, but aren’t confident enough with map reading to plan a walk. Therefore this is a pub meet with a difference as we will be running as session looking at map reading and also helping anyone who would like to plan a walk but needs a bit of help. There will be a load of local maps at the pub meet for us all to use & hopefully we’ll get a few new walks & walk leaders from the session. Feel free to just come and join us if you want to learn a bit more about us as a group and gain some useful information about map reading. <- Google pin of start |

November, 9 mile Northampton town walk, walk
leader Jayne This is a 9 mile loop through parks and the town centre. We'll meet at 10.30am at the top of Overstone Road - near St Michael's car park and opposite the 'Boot and Shoe Quarter' sign (near where the Chron and Echo used to be for any one who has known Northampton for a few years). This walk doesn't have a lunch stop, as we're planning to eat in the pub at the end. First we will pass through the racecourse, then up through Abington park, across the A45, down the River Nene to the Delapre estate. From there we'll head back through Far Cotton and the town centre. Weekend away,
Whaley Bridge, Derbyshire 24-26 November Ray is organising this November's weekend away. We'll be staying near the town of Whalley Bridge in Derbyshire, as its not an area of the Peak District we visit very often. He's booked two cottages big enough to accommodate 16 people – it has some double beds, so that's assuming the number of couples / people willing to share a double bed works out. The likely cost will be around £60 for the weekend. (For people who haven't come on a weekend away before, this cost will cover the accommodation for 2 nights – the Friday and the Saturday night, and food for breakfast and to make up packed lunches for Saturday and Sunday lunchtimes). The numbers are based on the numbers of people who have come on weekends away in the past. If the spaces in the cottages get filled up, there will be the option of staying in B&Bs in Whalley Bridge itself. (These would need to be booked yourselves, but you'd be very welcome to come and 'hang out' at the cottages after walks etc). Generally people will organise to share lifts, depending on where they live and when they were thinking of leaving (eg some people take a day or half day off work on the Friday, others travel up on the evening). People usually sort themselves out for food on the Friday night, and we'll all go out for a pub meal in the evening on the Saturday night. We'll be doing a long-ish walk on the Saturday, and a shorter walk / group visit to local attraction(s) on the Sunday. All of this of course is weather dependent! https://www.groupaccommodation.com/properties/felton-brook-farm-cottages-high-peak-derbyshire Also on TripAdvisor, and (if you can get it to work) apparently on www.horwichfarm.co.uk If you are interested in coming along, please contact Ray as soon as possible, or use the email on our contacts page and we can forward your interest on to him. Ray will ask for a deposit to secure your place on the trip. |

December, Santa hat walk from Long Buckby station,
walk leader – Santa This is a 9.5 mile circular walk from Long Buckby station with several pub stops en route. There is the option to travel by train, with the most convenient train from Northampton arriving at 10.11am. The walk won't start until 10.30am to allow for those coming by car and to save any confusion! For those who are driving please note that parking is free in the small Network Rail car park closest to the station but there is a charge for the much larger private car park next to this (further from the station). As it's the Santa Hat Walk Santa hats are of course compulsory and other Christmassy attire is encouraged, eg Elf Costumes, the much fabled Reindeer Onesie, Mrs Christmas Dresses (as now availble in Primark!) and so on. There will be a prize for the best full costume which will be awarded by Santa himself! For more details, please see the information that Santa has kindly provided. “Hello Boys and Girls - Santa Here - Ho Ho Ho! Once again I will be taking time out from my busy December schedule to lead a walk for your lovely group! Staying with last year's theme we will again have the option of a car free walk, not for any eco friendly reasons but so that those who can come that way can take advatage of the pub stops (during which I transform by the power of Christmas magic into Andy, who has been known to like the odd half a shandy - I prefer sherry myself!) From Long Bucky we will be heading over the rolling countryside to the pretty village of Whilton (which sadly has no pub) and then over the fields again to Little Brington, where we stop for our packed lunch on the village green before visiting our first pub, the Saracen's Head. From here it's a short walk to Great Brington, and the Althorp Coaching Inn (AKA the Fox and Hounds), where we will again stop for a drink! After being suitably refreshed we will then head back the three and a half miles to Long Buckby, where there will be the option of a couple more drinks in the town pubs before heading home. Merry Christmas one and all, hope to see you on the 17th! Love Santa X” <- Google pin of start |
