Photos Of This Trip

Written on location on Tim's laptop - after a few beers / wines in the case of Saturday's report so it all goes a bit strange ...... Not for the easily shocked !!!

Friday

We all turned up before it got dark, except Andy so we sat around wishing we had a football. We sent a few desperate texts to John and Rachel asking them to bring one, but after lots of messages to and fro no one seemed to have one.

Rather than waiting for Andy we headed to the pub, but just before 11 we got a call from him, but we could hear him talking without our mobiles. Andy lived up to his "Beer disposal unit" T shirt by swiftly finishing off Rich's pint.

Saturday

Got up at 5 to get to James' at 6 for a leisurely drive down to Wales. Had a stop for a "tom" at the M50 services before changing into my best walking outfit in the loos.

Arrived at the camp site at about 9 in time to join the others, to wait for everyone to get ready to catch the 10am bus to the start of their epic walk. After reminding Mark that the stop was just ahead (good job someone was looking at the map) we headed up to Corn Du, the first of the 2000ft peaks to do a very good walk along the highest mountains in South Wales, heading up for a 4 or was it a 5 peak walk with Y Garn (the hill in welsh) Corn Do, Pen y Van, Cribin and Fan y Big stopping on the top of Cribin for lunch.

We had learnt our lesson from Cadar to take lots of water as the sweat was poring of us after all the 5 peaks and we still had over half of the walking still to do back to the campsite. When it was found that we had only half an hour to get back to the campsite shop before it shut me and Mark volunteered to run ahead to get the ice creams, good job we did as the shop had just shut when the rest got back.

A nice long shower to wash off the tan in the award winning loos (they even had a pot plant by the sinks) then we sat down to drink lots of beer and wine and wait for the burgers to get cremated.

Dinner was a bbq so the beer and wine was opened and the bbqs where lit only they were a bit show to cook so when it was ready lots of drink had been drunk and the food was devoured gratefully by this time. I was somewhat worse for wear (that will teach me to drink on an empty stomach) then some one decided to head for the pub and on receiving my pint I promptly fell asleep.

Feel I may have been misinformed about this 'camping' lark - seems to involve too many tents and public loos for my liking. Mind you, George Michael never had any problems with the public loo thing.

On returning from our walk I realised that my boob tube and leather hotpants may not have been the best attire as I am now sporting some rather burnt shoulders and knees. Oh well, hopefully they won't notice at work next week.

Spent the evening in the local pub getting some rather strange looks from the locals. Strange that - surely what I do can't be that much weirder than what they do with sheep. Don't they get Little Britain on Welsh TV?!?!?

Sunday

Not sure where I am . ended up spending the night with a local. Perhaps they are into 'camping' round here after all!

This morning we packed our tents and drove to Ystradfellte, commonly known as waterfall country and saw a total of 4 waterfalls, including one where you can walk behind the falling water, where Mark had a quick shower, but sadly for the girls* he left his kecks on!

We also donned our head torches on and crawled round some of the caves where the river goes underground, carefully avoiding the areas marked as 'Extremely Dangerous, many people have died here' - gulp!

Thanks to Mark for organising the weekend, staying at a superb campsite with all the mod cons: fridges, freezers, and of course the multi-award winning clean loos and showers.

Reports written by Tim, John and A.N. Other !!!

Tim would like to point out he had nothing to do with Saturday's report, so don't sue him! (I don't think John is responsible either!)

*Not sure it was just the girls who were disappointed, given some of "A.N. Other's" comments !!
